Entries for South West Junior Chef of the Year 2024, for 11-16 year olds, are now open.
This category of the competition aims to help young cooks build their confidence in the kitchen and learn new skills. Contestants will compete for the title in their own county initially and county winners will go on to meet at the South West final.
Entries can now be submitted by sending us a recipe for a main course dish to serve two people using principally locally grown/produced ingredients. Based on the recipes submitted, our judges will select competitors in each of the six counties of the South West who will be invited to prepare their dish for the judges in 90 minutes at their county’s catering college.
The county competitions will take place as follows:
- Wiltshire – Monday 17th June at Wiltshire College, Trowbridge
- Dorset – Monday 24th June at Weymouth College
- Somerset – Tuesday 25th June at Bridgwater and Taunton College, Taunton
- Devon – Wednesday 26th June at Exeter College
- Cornwall – Friday 28th June at Cornwall College, Camborne
- Gloucestershire – Wednesday 3rd July at Bath College, Bath
All county winners will be offered mentoring with one of our esteemed judges, providing them with an opportunity to enhance their dish, develop their skills and gain valuable experience of a commercial kitchen, in advance of the overall final.
This year we are marking the 20th anniversary of South West Chef of the Year and after adding this entry category for young cooks 11 years ago, we are very proud to have highlighted the skills of budding young chefs ever since.
Entry closing date: Tuesday 21st May 2024
